Actual Roleplaying...
Forgive me if this is in the wrong forum, not sure if it should be here or not.
I was wondering what percentage of people actually create true RP chars, and not just a character to use in PvE. I try to strike a balance, most of the time, meaning I act as my character, but occasionally little details of my real-life alter-ego slip in. I ask because I enjoy playing a game as in-universe as possible. I think it's more appropriate to the game, and just plain fun. |

tbh the "role-playing" community has died down in the last couple years....back in '06 you could easily find rp'ers all throughout factions and props. they truly are a dying breed in this game. with that being said my necro is to cantha what william wallace was to scotland. ;P

Role Players do exist still, but the amount has decreased as said.
Lyssa's Fiction usually have "role playing groups" start ups going every now and then. Any Role Players that still play and use Guru can usually be found there. |

I'm sure there are a few RP guilds, but unfortunately it's a dying breed.

How can you RP in a game where traveling is instant teleport if you have been in a city or outpost, but you can't teleport inside of a zone? Or how do you RP at all that a big, stupid warrior can teleport? ;d

Keep in mind that it is a fantasy world - teleporters don't need to exist in the real world for you to RP them. |

i joined a RP guild by accident once, about 2-3 years ago. i guess i overlooked it in the guild advertisement and didnt know what they meant by it. needless to say, i was a bit weirded out when i hopped on vent...
i thought they were just messing with me or hazing or whatever at first. then they continued...and i quietly left but yeah ive seen random guilds advertise role playing here and there, but its mostly died out |

My Buddy and I role play when we play our Monks together.
We don't tellaport unless it is in a port and the place we are going also has a dock; we qualify this as a ship transit. Everywhere else we walk, sometimes it takes forever to get from one place to another. We start the characters brand new and can use NOTHING from other characters, including gold. We can't buy skills; we have to use ones we have "Learned" by being rewarded with them from quests et al. It has me appreciating the game like I did when I first started in the beta events. The "wow" came back. |

I'd wager that a lot of people just want to play the game for what it is instead of adding an extra layer to it. That, and some players probably don't have the creativity or patience to effectively roleplay. After all, we live in a time where flavor of the month buzz words and memes are hip while using original creativity is considered geeky and therefore unattractive. Funny how the very same people who used to chide nerds/geeks now enjoy the fruits of their labor, but that is a rant for another time.
Also, I don't think GW is the best game for roleplaying(Ultima Online will probably always be the best online RPG in that capacity). I think this is mostly due to how linear the story is (characters always start off in the same "pupil situation", etc.). Given the opportunity, I would be glad to RP with some like minded players, but the situation has never come up. Last edited by -Makai-; Jan 13, 2009 at 10:57 AM // 10:57.. |

Role Playing does not have to be only D&D style world. As Quaker said, it depends on the rules of your fantasy world.
While GW's linear story doesn't give much room for RP, you don't need to follow the storyline exactly to finish the campaign. As stated, all you can do is post in the "Looking for" section. Search those for threads mentioning roleplaying and see if you can track anyone down - put on your Friends list, check for websites, etc.
